Beyond the Classroom
Year 6 Buddhism Workshop
Year 6 were delighted to welcome Vihar, from The London Buddhist Centre. He came to enhance our RE Buddhism topic with first hand experiences about his religious beliefs and experiences. There were discussions around the core values of wisdom, kindness, patience, generosity and compassion which also link to our own school and well-being values so it was a very enriching event.
Vihar was particularly impressed with how much the class had retained from their own lessons and how engaged they were with the knowledge and understanding he was delivering.
It was a very uplifting and positive experience for all involved!
Year 1 Library Work
Last half term the children in Year 1 visited the local library in Goffs Oak to deepen their understanding of Traditional Tales. They looked at a range of stories and thought about the different characters, settings and morals. They then completed work which the Library have displayed in their entrance.
Safer Internet Day 2024
This year we marked Safer Internet Day with a whole school assembly. We looked at the importance of keeping our personal information safe, the impact our digital footprint can have and how oversharing can be unsafe. The children were also given information on the different apps and platforms and the age rating that are set to them. Some of the children were surprised and gave everyone some food for thought. Mrs Hart and Miss Thornborrow hosted a parent session to go into more details about how parent control can help keeping our children safe online. This was well attended and the parents commented on useful the session was. Below are some of the documents that were shared and the key website for the different device/app/game guides to support with parental controls.
Young Voices 2024
On Wednesday 17th January 50 children from Years 4, 5 and 6 once again took part in the Young Voices Concert at the O2 in London. The world's BIGGEST children's choir singing together and performing some well known and original songs. It was a wonderful day (although a long day) and the children were an absolute credit to the school with their behaviour and their attitude. The adults who went all had a wonderful time and the feedback from the parents that were in the audience was overwhelmingly positive! Roll on YV 2025!!!
Natalie Shay KS2 Visit
This week we were so excited to welcome the amazing Natalie Shay to Goffs Oak Primary. She is a wonderful singer, songwriter and guitar player who creates beautiful music linked to positive well-being. The children were able to listen to her story overcoming her difficulties and ask her questions about her music and life. It was a really lovely event. Thank you to the Friends of Goffs Oak for funding this event.
